The island of Kaprije, with the area of 9.67 km2, is located in the middle of the Šibenik archipelago. The island is named after a mediterranean plant called kapara whose buds are used as a spice. The place is surrounded by the hills, among which Velika glavica is the highest one, with the hight above the sea of 132m.

In the 14th and 15th century the island belonged to the noble families of Šibenik. At the time of the Turkish invasion of this area, in the 16th and 17th century, people escaping from the land invaded by the Turks settled here, but they partly emigrated when the Turks started to retreat. At that time the St. Peter's church was built and it was made bigger in 1801.

At the back part of the cove of the island of Kaprije, about 400m further ahead, you will find a sandy beach which will make your children very happy and about 15 minutes further from that beach there is a real jewel hiding, that is the cove Nozdra, a natural graveled beach with white, flat stony top which is ideal for comfortable sunbathing.

After swimming, when you get thirsty or hungry, you can find refreshment in a bar or a restaurant which are located od the other side of the cove Nozdra. Both places are decorated with a lot of style, made of stone, and well integrated with the surrounding landscape.

The island of Kaprije is by far known for its great scuba diving locations, too. The ship Francesca da Rimini was sunk during the World War II, and thanks to excellent transparency of the sea its contours can be seen at a depth of only 10 m. On the cape of the island of Kaprije there is an unforgettable undersea wall with the caves full of life.
